Defining and Valuing Green Homes by nationally acclaimed green building consultant Marc Richmond, shows builders, designers, inspectors, appraisers, lenders and real estate professionals the nuts and bolts of Green Home Building & Remodeling and how it translates into increased value in the marketplace.

An Eye Opening Learning Experience:

Learning about the prevalence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and poly vinyl chloride (PVC) in building materials was like learning about the prevalence of high fructose corn syrup in processed foods.
Marc Richmond explained in great detail why perspective home owners will value homes that minimize the use of PVC and VOCs. For example, PVC, over time releases phthalates, which are linked to reproductive disorders. Even Eskimos who have little exposure to PVC have phthalates in their systems.
As we tighten up our homes to maximize energy efficiency, the concentrations of VOCs and phthalates will increase if we do not also improve our indoor – outdoor air exchange.
