I-Renew Receives Federal Stimulus Energy Program Award

2010 will be a great renewable year for Iowa

DES MOINES – Governor Culver announced more than $9.36 million in federal stimulus awards made by the Office of Energy Independence. The 62 projects will save Iowans $4.7 million in energy costs annually, provide nearly $33.4 million in matching funds and create or retain 328 direct jobs.

Projects were awarded in the categories of public sector, private sector, non-profit sector, training and information, innovative projects and technology demonstration. I-Renew will receive $100,000 under the training and information program to expand its staff in order to provide training related to wind, solar, and solar thermal in at least 24 workshops over the next two years. Introductory and advance level courses will be offered. Check back soon as we post more on our new, expanded curriculum.

In addition, I-Renew will coordinate with Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) to ensure that workshops offered by I-Renew fulfill the prerequisites for the MREA intermediate and advanced offerings.

“Thanks to projects like these, we are growing our economy and, most importantly, creating jobs – right when Iowans need them the most,” said Governor Culver. “Using federal stimulus funds, we are positioned to retain existing employers and grow a new energy industry that not only fits the landscape, but also becomes inextricably linked to Iowa.”

“The awards made for these projects allow us to continue our collaborative work with Iowans who are committed to achieving results and economic prosperity for Iowa.” said Roya Stanley, director of the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. “Taken together, these projects will allow Iowa to further develop our growing green economy, while creating new jobs and making energy efficiency a top priority.”
